Preparing for the clothing exchange at the Dallas OH event and have questions
Thank you all for your replies. When I say I have clothes I have hundreds of pieces of clothes.
It isn't any small pile....
There is a bed under there, I promise.
I'd love to be as organized as Jodi and mark each one with sizes, but I just won't ever find or make the time. I can commit to seperating them by sizes and keeping sets or suits together.
You see those little boxes on the floor, well I was just wishful thinking when I thought I could BOX this stuff up. That pile is taller than I am and I am 5'7".
Oh, it will be good to get rid of all these clothes and even better they'll be going to someone who can use them on their journey of self discovery!

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date. Current as of November 1, 2009
OH Mini-Challenge Goal for New Year's Day is 170 pounds. 11 pounds to go!
I helped out at the RYD clothing exchange, so I can answer most of your questions. If the OH one is going to be different, then Sean can clarify.
Anyone know if there is going to be a laundry cart or something similar to unload all these clothes in to? Just load your clothes into garbage bags if that is easier for you. You will have help at the hotel unloading from the folks who volunteer. . I'll have them bagged, of course, but I have tons of clothes. This has to be easy or I'll just talk myself out of taking them. I sort of like the easy way!
Also, what about shoes? Yes, by all means bring shoes! Since my feet shrunk without an extra 100+ pounds flattening them out, I wear a whole size smaller shoe. I have tons of shoes that are gently worn...nothing was ever comfortable so I didn't wear them often enough to show wear.
Is it a one-for-one thing, or if you bring clothes, you can take clothes and that is what is important so no one counts? Nobody keeps track - take all you want. You don't even have to bring anything to take clothes.
And finally, are there actually going to be 10s, 12s and 14s or just a bunch of 18s - 28s. Sadly, I'm wondering "What's in it for me?" It all depends on who brings what. I snagged a bunch of 12's at the RYD and will be be bringing them back in hopes of finding some 10's. There are definitely more clothes in the bigger sizes since nobody wearing a size 14 qualifies for surgery LOL but there are smaller clothes, too.
For all you veterans, please fill me in on what to expect? Is this a volunteer run thing? Are the clothes just piled on tables or do we need to have them on hangers for racks?
Yes, it is a volunteer run event. There are tons of clothes to go through and most are piled on tables. The nicer outfits are hung up if the person donating them brought hangars. It depends on how big a room the hotel provides. At the RYD conference they were very generous and we were able to sort the clothes by type (jeans, tops, etc) and size ranges (10-14) (16-20) etc. so you didn't have to go through as many to find your size.

Also, some people just dropped their clothes off and the volnteers sorted them. Others stayed and at least sorted their own clothes since the tables will be clearly marked. It is up to you.
Since there will be help at the conference it will be no more trouble than loading them up to take to Goodwill.

Thanks Sarah. That about answers all my questions. I can't wait until the conference.

Hi Sara,
I have volunteered to help Sean with the clothing exchange. I know on the events page they are asking eveyone to bring the clothes friday AM if at all possible. The clothing exchange opens I believe at 2. You can bring any clothes, shoes, purses, swimsuits and anything else wearable that your family doesn't want. What is left over is always donated to a local charity. I know when I went to the Houston OH Event last Nov. I took 8 33 gallon bags.
Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

HI Vivian,
I am planning on taking the day off that Friday, so hopefuly I can be there early in the day. I went and bought a box of 30 - 39 gallon garbage bags and think I will probably end up using all thirty of them. I can't wait!

I will be coming in from out of town travel on that Friday. I would love to contribute to the clothing exchange. I have a lot of career wear to donate. Sizes 18W through size 14.
I would like to provide my donation to someone ahead of time if possible.
Let me know if anyone would like to meet me ahead of time and I will pack the donation in a box so it is easy to deliver.
I land at 3:30 and will be attending the event. I look forward to seeing everyone!
